These plates are used for the detection of anaerobic (lives without oxygen) bacterial contamination found in your brew.
• Quadrant 1: Lee’s Multi-Differential Agar (LMDA) detects bacteria and yeast contamination. LMDA detects lactic acid producing bacteria including Lactobacillus and Acetobacter species, which produce acids that change the media color from green to yellow.
•Quadrant 2: Hsu’s Lactobacillus/Pediococcus Agar (HLP) detects Lactobacillus and Pediococcus bacteria, major bacterial contaminants encountered during the brewing process. For optimal growth, an anaerobic gas generator sachet should be used during incubation.
